Hi, and thanks for taking the time to find out more about me!
In case the name of the site didn't give it away, my name is Bernie Hoelschen, and I am a relatively self-trained photographer from southeastern Massachusetts. Originally from Hull, I've lived up and down the south coast of Massachusetts for the past few years. Currently I live in Rockland, with my wife Brianne (see below).
I studied at Bridgewater State College (University now) from 1999-2004 and received my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, but during the course of my studies I was able to take a few semesters of black and white photography, and then later a 400 level Digital Photography class under the direction of Ivana George.
I remained active in the arts after college (if you consider playing bass in a band for a couple of years with a regularly gigging band, the Adam Ainslie Band the arts) but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I really got back into photography. In the past couple of years, I've essentially gone from a Sigma SD9 (Circa 2002) to my current gear kit (comprised of Canon DSLR gear). Once I picked the camera up again, I couldn't put it down. I don't know if it was the fascination that I could take more than 30-40 shots on a digital SLR (remember, the SD9 from 2002? It was a 10 megapixel camera, and I only had 128 megabyte cards. You do the math), or just the shear quality of the images I could capture, but I have become enamored with photography once again and am really diving head first into the endless possibilities.
While a lot of my work from college was more artistically centered, I feel like now there's so much value in capturing the raw, true emotion in shots as they are. I truly want to capture moments the way that I see them, to share the beauty I sometimes find in ordinary objects like a dramatic sunset, or parents at play with their kids in Hull, or the emotions of a memorable day such as a bridal shower or even a wedding.
My goal is to make you feel comfortable and almost blend in during your special events so that you're not worried about whether or not I'm going to be there for your your special moments; I want you to be able to concentrate on everything going on around you during your special event, and truly enjoy and remember what happens, and I want to help supplement those memories with breath-taking, memorable images.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions in regards to my background, my experience, or even general photography questions - I can be reached via the contact button at the bottom of this page. Thanks, I hope to hear from you soon!
